Dear K.C.,

I want to tell you how wonderful the entertainment was at my son Colin's Bar Mitzvah last month. I was greatly impressed by how you were able to keep everybody engaged and active from the little children to the dozens of my son's friends to the grandparents and the older generation. Everyone felt that they attended the party of a lifetime. You were so helpful in the planning and coordination with the Arboretum Club and you had everything working like clockwork. It was amazing how you were able to keep the kids occupied while the adults were eating and then have appropriate adult music while the kids were eating. The dancers that you brought with were awesome and made sure not a single guest was unoccupied and that all felt welcome to participate.

I was particularly impressed by how well you integrated my son's theme into the entertainment for the evening. My son is a huge Cubs fan and the fact that you perlormed your MC duties while wearing a Cubs jersey and led the whole crowd in singing, "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," made the evening memorable so that my son will never forget his Bar Mitzvah party.

I cannot begin to thank you enough lor the great job you did and for the enjoyment all of our guests had last Saturday. I cannot imagine any family having more fun at a Bar Mitzvah than we had, and I just want to thank you for that.

Keith Christopher Entertainment Rocks Chicago High School Dances, Homecomings, Turnabouts, and Proms like no one does

Dear Keith,

“That was by far the best Homecoming ever!”
“No other dance at any other school has been like this!”
“I felt like I was in a night club, it was so cool!”
“Are we going to have this DJ every year? I hope so!”

These are only a few of the comments I received from my students over the years after you have done Homecoming here at ABS.  I have been putting Homecoming together at Shepard for the last 18 years and I have NEVER had so many happy students as I have had since you began doing our dances six years ago.  I don’t think my students would “allow” me to choose anyone else!

The whole feel of the gym is different with your company.  Even the chaperones and teachers were amazed at the energy in the room, it was electric!  You and your crew knew exactly what to do to transform the gym into a party. The lighting and sound were definitely something you would expect at a concert.  I was amazed! In fact, I had a hard time staying off the dance floor myself!

Your professionalism and personal attention to every detail is greatly appreciated.  I can honestly say I have never dealt with a company like yours.  I feel very comfortable calling with questions or concerns.   You have made it very easy to take Shepard Homecoming dances to that next level. The music and what the kids want at a dance has changed so much over the years and you have made it possible for us to stay ahead of the curve!

I can’t see a future dance that I don’t rely on you to continue to bring the “wow” factor! Thank you so much for making amazing memories for my students and making me a “hero” in the process!

Sincerely,

Keith Christopher: About the Man
by Craig Sumsky

I met K.C. back in 1999 at a DJ convention in Atlantic City.  He was sitting on the panel of an educational seminar in front of an audience of about three hundred people, and I believe it was something like ‘Marketing 101 for DJs.’ Regardless of the topic, what impressed me most about Keith as opposed to the other panelists was that this was a guy that told it like it was, and was brutally honest… No B.S.

I introduced myself after the seminar, and we’ve stayed in touch ever since, forging a friendship that has enriched my life both professionally and personally for the last decade.  More than a colleague, or even a friend, K.C. has been a comrade.  His work ethic and commitment to excellence has been an inspiration to me as both an entertainer and entrepreneur, and I can honestly say that every time I’ve heeded his advice, the results have always been for the positive.

Now that K.C. has FINALLY added a blog to his website, it’s afforded me the long desired opportunity for some payback.  I guess in a way you could call this a paid endorsement, but I can assure you, Mr. K didn’t pay me in money.

The advice, professional relationship, and good nature of Keith KoKoruz make him a man of genuine character.  The wisdom he has freely shared with me over the years has been nothing short of invaluable inspiration, and I would even go so far as to ponder whether or not I would even be as successful as I am in this industry without having K.C. as a resource.

My company, Cutting Edge Entertainment (in Philadelphia), has been in business since 1992, and when K.C. decided to make a change from Spinnin’ Discs to The Keith Christopher Entertainment Group, I tried my very best to convince him that a move to Philly might be a nice change.  He respectfully declined, and so my plot to conquer the world (or at least my market), were temporarily dashed.

If he had taken my offer I honestly believe that my company and my staff would do nothing but gain from his involvement.  Keith’s drive for success is measureable in both macro and micro, in that he runs his business like he runs an event in that he tackles even the smallest events as if it were a million dollar budget.  He’s just a kick-ass DJ that gives 110%, and fail isn’t a word in his vocabulary.

Keith’s having a blog has finally given me an opportunity to say 1,000 thanks for everything he’s selflessly done to help pave my road to success.  Just book him for your next event… you won’t find a more talented or committed caliber entertainer.  The Chicago area is lucky to have him.

The IPod vs. the DJ

The IPod vs. the DJ
by Keith "K.C." KoKoruz

In today’s uncertain economic times everyone is looking to save money where ever they can. Substituting the entertainment with an IPod has been a media hot spot this year, so let’s consider the possibilities. Let’s start by stating the obvious about both.

The IPod argument

There is no question that a bride and groom can rent a quality sound system at a reasonable rate, have it delivered or have a friend bring it to the reception and set it up with play lists all programmed on it with folders designed for cocktails, dinner, program in their 1st dance, the father daughter dance, and their favorite party songs to dance to. You need to consider the amount of time creating these folders are going to take and if you have the access to an extensive music library or the cost of downloading these songs off of the internet. The cost of renting a sound system is probably about $200-$300 on average nationally. The costs of adding music to your IPod obviously will vary.

The Dj argument

A dj comes completely self contained and already has all of the music, a quality sound system, and years of experience behind him or her.  The average cost of a quality dj nationally can range from $800 to $3,000 dollars. Median price is probably $1,200.00.

The defining difference:

Timing, experience, and enrollment in the moment is the difference and in my personal and professional opinion, the defining difference and a deal breaker to consider. A professional dj with a comprehensive music collection knows when to play what song, and in doing so creates the mood and the energy level appropriate for that moment. They know how to push the crowd musically and verbally to keep that dance floor packed by using their years of experience and training. Now let’s talk about enrollment. My goal as a master of ceremonies is to not just make an announcement about the evening’s activities but to truly enroll the guests into the moment. This comes from years of experience, training, having a creative mind, and a true desire to make each bride’s wedding day memorable, elegant and fun.

A friend will most likely announce the father daughter dance like this. “And now we would like to invite Karen and her father to dance the daddy daughter dance. “ This is a simple and clear announcement. I personally would ask the bride and her dad a few questions in advance to learn a bit about them and their relationship and my introduction to that same dance would sound more like this. “On November 9, 1970, life in the KoKoruz house would change as they knew it forever with the arrival of our bride Karen Kathleen KoKoruz to her proud parents Steve and Christine. She was delivered into their lives at 1:20 p.m. at St Mary’s Hospital and weighed 7lbs 6 ounces. The doctor presented Karen to her dad for the very first time. He knew that in the blink of any eye those little tiny fingers that he was holding for the first would later be turned over to the man that she would like to spend the rest of her life with. Today that day has come so please join me in a warm proud round of applause as Karen and her dad share their special father daughter dance.”

I hope that as you read this you got a few goose bumps, perhaps even got a bit emotional as you thought about that special dance with your dad, and most importantly realized that an IPod can never make you or your guests feel that way.
